11th ANNUAL?

News Release….Regarding the 2011 24 Hours of Telemark:

Due to the closing of Telemark Resort in April, I am sorry to report that we have cancelled the 2011 24T scheduled for 8-9 January 2011. It would be impossible to hold a 24 hour event in the middle of the
Wisconsin winter without the use of a trailside lodge. There are other Nordic events going on in the region that weekend so check on-line for the info.

Hopefully in the future, we can hold this unique event again and we want to Thank all those who have participated over the past 10 years; it’s been a lot of fun.

Have a great Winter. Cheers, The 24T Gang.

BREAKING NEWS-We are all Ready!

The course looks great and we are ready for the 2010 T24! The race is scheduled to start at 10 am on Saturday, Jan 9! We plan to use the same 5 Km course used previously, which should be in excellent shape for both Skate & Classic. Our goal is to hold a safe, quality and fun event focusing on friendly competition in a festive environment. It will be quite cold this year, so come prepared. We will have petroleum jelly & moleskin available in the Hytte and there will be Hammer Gel and Heed energy drink available on the course.

Registration and event bag pick-up:

Friday 6-10 PM and Saturday 7-8:30 AM
in the Theater at Telemark.

Two Awards Ceremonies & Swag Fest door prize drawings
We will have awards & swag drawings for the 3 & 6 Hour categories at 5:00 pm in the Theater at Telemark.
We will also have our traditional awards ceremony on Sunday at 11:30 am in the Theater at Telemark for the 12 & 24 hour skiers and any participants who were unable to attend the Saturday awards ceremony.
Awards and swag drawings will be held at both events.

Pre-Race Meeting

Team Captains and solo participants are required to attend a pre-race meeting on Saturday at 8:45 am in the Theater at Telemark.

Rules

Team Captains MUST have a signed liability release from all skiers prior to the start of the event. Skiers must abide by the event rules. Copies are available at Registration.

New this year, the 24 hour event will end on the hour no matter where you are on the course; i.e. your last lap needs to be completed within 24 hours.

Night Lighting:

With new LED light technology the requirement to have a 6 watt light is no longer needed. Some of the 1 watt or 25 lumen LED climbing lights are quite bright, but note that battery life is shorter duration in cold conditions. You should carry a back-up flashlight and extra batteries when out on the course. NiteRider Halogen & LED headlamps are excellent. We will NOT have a charging station this year, but will have power strips available in the Hytte. We will have six 3 watt LED head lamps for sale at the registration table and/or Hytte for $35 & $45 depending on the model. These come with batteries and have an advertised 39 hour battery life.

Results and standings

Real time results will be available on computer terminals in the warming tent and results will be posted at the conclusion of each event.

Cold Weather Policy

If it is below -4F(-20C) at 10am, we will delay the start to 11am and all events move back 1 hour and go for their planned duration.

New! Costume Contest!

To spice things up a little at the 10th Annual 24T, we plan to have a costume contest, judging those with the grooviest and/or most creative ski attire. So bring along an outfit, or several, and join in the fun. There will be a Team and individual male and female winners.

The judges will be out on the course during the 3 & 6 hour events to give everyone a chance to strut their get-ups.

"College Cup" Award!

This fabulous trophy created by local Cable, Wisconsin artist Sara Balbin can belong to your college team! Because we have had such great support from the college ski clubs, particularly Carleton College and UW Madison, we have created a “College Cup” award. It will be based on the fastest average lap times of the club’s top 10 skiers. We have come up with a handicap factor, taking into consideration the team sizes and race durations for the 12 & 24 hour event categories. The whole concept will be light hearted and in the festive tradition of the 24 Hours of Telemark event. We hope that it will be a fun way to give one of the college teams some “bragging rights”.

New Finish Rule and Awards Ceremony...

One other change this year regarding the 24 Hour categories, those events, Solo, Duo, 4 & 6 person, will end at 10am on Sunday no matter where you are on the course; so your last lap before 10am is the one that counts in the standings. That way the timers can start working on the results to move up the closing awards ceremony and swag fest. That way people can head home a little earlier. We will also have an awards and swag ceremony for the skiers in the 3 & 6 hour events planned at 5pm in the Telemark Resort Theater.

IT'S NOT A RACE...
IT'S A HAPPENING!

What is the 24 hours of Telemark?
The 24 Hours of Telemark is a cross-country ski relay race with teams of one to six members competing against each other in different age divisions and categories. The team, or individual, in each category that completes the most laps in 24 hours is the winner. If 24 hours sounds too daunting to you, try one of the shorter events: 3, 6 or 12 hours! to see all categories go to the teams page!

Held each winter since 2002, this x-c race is fun for cross-country skiers of all abilities. The race course is a short but challenging loop immediately adjacent to Telemark Lodge. With the course right out the door of the lodge, it's just a few short steps from skiing to warm rooms and changes of clothes, as well as Telemark's outstanding hospitality.

The 24 Hours of Telemark has grown in size and class each year. The prize list for 2010 (donated by our generous sponsors) looks to be most huge... and much of it will be given away as door prizes. Maybe you should join us this year?

Intrigued, but not quite ready? Volunteer!
